Projects - Thaana
Maldives is a small country with a small population speaking and writing in their own language and script. It is for us Maldivians to develop and maintain not only the Dhivehi language itself but also the various tools and methods required to produce and disseminate writings in our Thaana script. I have written a few articles and released various software over the years in the hopes of contributing positively to that task. This page is an attempt at bringing together my Thaana related work, which is currently scattered across various posts on my blog, into a single point for easy access and reference. And yes, all these are free, both for personal and commercial use.
Thaana Transcoder
Thaana Transcoder is a Windows-based tool that performs the often much needed conversion of Thaana text written in Accent, Faseyha Thaana, MS Word version 97 (and older) to and from the modern Unicode standard used by MS Word XP/2007 and OpenOffice. Radheef for Ubiquity
Radheef for Ubiquity (RfU) adds the verb "bas" to the popular Firefox plugin Ubiquity from Mozilla. RfU also allows users to simply select any word on a Thaana page and instantly look up its meaning.- More info + download
Accent to RTF Converter
Convert documents originally written in Accent or Accent Express into a format compatible with Microsoft Word and OpenOffice.More info + download
MLS Converter
Convert Thaana documents written using the Multi-Lingual Scholar (MLS) software, which was popular in the Maldives in the 90s, into a format compatible with Microsoft Word and OpenOffice.More info + download
Latin Thaana Converter
Converts Thaana written in Latin Thaana (i.e. "sarukaaru") to Unicode Thaana (i.e. "ސަރުކާރު) which can be used in Microsoft Word and OpenOffice.- More info + download
Javascript Thaana Keyboard
Javascript Thaana Keyboard (JTK) is a Javascript library which provides easy entry of Thaana on web pages without the involvement of OS-based keyboard switching. JTK supports all the different Thaana keyboard layouts: Phonetic, Phonetic (Hassan Hameed version) and Typewriter. JTK is actively maintained and is now being used by an increasing number of Dhivehi websites.- More info + download
Thaana Conversions class for PHP
This is a utility class that allows PHP developers to handle most forms of Thaana representation they will come across and solve many of the sticky Thaana related problems that crop up. The Thaana Conversions class allows text to be dynamically transformed to/from various different formats of Thaana including Unicode, ASCII and Latin Thaana.- More info + download
Thaana date formatting for PHP 5
This utility class provides a drop-in function replacement/equivalent for the built-in PHP date() function to output formatted dates in Thaana.- More info + download
Guides to using Thaana on the web
There aren't many resources on the web on how to use Thaana on websites and many of the few that do exist provide incomplete or incorrect instructions.
